Brenneman pork has 43,000 sows, 5 sow farms and dozens of finisher barns. They use state of the art technology to make sure their animals are well taken care of and have proper care. They produce a cross breed of Landrace and Duroc. They raise the sows to give birth then send the offspring to be finished at other barns owned and operated by other colleagues. Brenneman pork is in the top 50 pork producers in the nation. They mostly sell to Tyson, yes Tyson chicken also sells beef and pork.
Brenneman also has their own feed mill. They make their own rations for the pigs they raise and don't sell to anyone outside of their operation. They told me that 1 semi load of feed for 25,000 pigs will last 3 days. Their operation is so big that they need 3 full time mechanics to maintain their own semis, trucks and other equipment. In total the company employs 300 people.
We had the opportunity to visit with Rob and Char Brenneman, and Erin and Tim Brenneman over a delicious pulled pork dinner. Today was a true learning experience.
