Day 4: Squash Blossom Farm by Lauren

At our third stop of the fourth day of our summer ag tour, we went to Squash Blossom Farm.

We arrived and were immediately greeted by four sweet dogs. We then met Mrs. Susan (one of the owners who is also an artist) who told us her family, and the farm's amazing story.

We took a peaceful walk around the property and saw a few sculptures.

Around the time her and her husband's children were leaving for college, they decided to purchase an old farm, the remaining 10 acres of the original 100.

The farm has all original buildings with a few additions, built by Mrs. Susan and Mr. Roger (who practices architecture) themselves. Before covid, their children helped with various animals when on breaks from college. The family tried a small community supported plan with their vegetables, where people had a "subscription" but by covid they knew it would not work for them. Coming out of covid they produced some different ideas on how to use their vegetables, half of what it was before. Soon their business transformed into its current form where pizza is sold (we tried around 9 flavors) selling chocolate (they let us taste some, it was delicious!), hosting events, and even selling fresh bread at local markets! While mostly focused on those businesses they have several chickens and geese, 2 donkeys, and 4 goats! We got a tour of a beautiful vardo (commonly known as a gypsy wagon hand-built by carpenter and artist friends), a hand-built sunroom, gorgeous pizza oven, a kitchen area, aquaponics system, and outside lounge area.

We also met Mrs. Tracy, a retired teacher, who helped with their chocolate, made by them!

It was an incredible experience, that I was glad to have a chance to visit.
