It’s me, Annaliese and I’m here to tell you all about Hoards Historical Museum on Day #2 of this year's Summer Ag Tour! In the museum there is a dairy shrine that is like a layout of displays that we got to look at of what the dairyman did back then. Here are a few things we learned:
- Then we got to watch videos in the shrine that talked about how there are 9 million dairy cows that produce milk in the U.S, that’s 41 gallons for cheese, 37 gallons for drinking, 10 for butter and 12 for ice cream.
- The dairy man used a 3-legged stool to sit on to milk the cows because it’s more stable and wouldn’t fall over.
- They would use cow bells on the cows so they could find them in the pastures for their next milking.
- They would separate milk to make cream or butter.
On the tour of the museum, we got to walk the house that Hoard and his family lived in and it was a very cool experience to see how people lived and how old, modern houses looked back in the day.
I appreciate the opportunity that I got to be able to go on this trip and learn things to further my education in Agriculture and hopes that one day I’m able to teach kids the same way I am being taught now and that these next 2 years of high school I'm able to get the experience of Ag that not all people get the opportunity to have.
